Let's talk about taxidermy!
Preserving animals: creepy or educational? I submit it can be both!
The best collection of preserved animals I've seen is in Bucharest, at the Muzeul de Istorie Naturală Grigore Antipa. There, wooden display cases are lined with an abundance of well-preserved examples of rare animals. It is fun to closely observe the animals and the variation in the size and coloring. So, taxidermy can be educational.
The weirdest collection of preserved animals I've seen was in an antique shop in Farmington, New Hampshire. The owner purchased a building that contained a strange collection of heads from local and exotic animals, probably from hunting and the occasional safari. Add several old vacuums, a collection of mannequins, a collection of amateur paintings of nudes, and a worthless collection of books, and you've see the entire inventory of the store. So, slightly creepy, but I liked imagining the lifestyle of the person who once owned all of the items.
The Rhode Island School of Design has a natural collection that has grown to over 80,000 specimens. Established by Edna W. Lawrence, the collection contains shells, live plants, skeletons, preserved animals, feathers, and pressed leaves.

Tour of the Nature Lab.
It would be fun to visit the collection after visiting RISD's Museum of Art.
