This Color is On Me

A brief mention of my obsession with Katharine Brush:

In the 1940's, my grandmother collected matched hardcover editions of novels by Katherine Brush. My dad's family is divided over the reason for these purchases: one side maintains that she read them, and another that she bought them only for their aesthetic value.

I hope that she read them, as I did last summer, and fell in love with their skill of storytelling, especially Brush's This Is On Me.

In Brush's novels, she mentions two colors of nail lacquer: red and nude, both popular in the late twenties and thirties. I think nude nails are an interesting idea: the complete opposite of dark colors, nude is equally edgy, causing the nails to disappear off your hands. Like paling your skin. Red nails are equally dramatic, especially with a couple of coats of clear gloss. Bloodless or Bloody.

Last summer I bought Borghese's Botticelli Nude at CVS, where I'm always seduced by the beauty displays. Borghese also have a great section of plums and reds.
