Robert's Maine Grill is one of my new favorite restaurants.
Entrees you'll love:
Mussels a la Howard
Turkey on Grilled Cranberry, Orange and Walnut Bread
Crab and Avocado Melt
Classic Lobster Roll
Any of the fried Seafood
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
I have yet to try:
Moxie & Bourbon BBQ Tenderloin Tips
Maine Seafood Paella
Lobster Cobb
And others, but those three are next on my list!
Robert's uses locally-sourced food and beverages whenever possible, including a great selection of beers from New England breweries. The restaurant also has a community supper every Tuesday night, which includes a three course meal for 12 dollars, with all profits going towards a local non-profit.
AND, because this is a design blog, I'll throw in a couple of comments about the location and atmosphere. Robert's has a picturesque location right next to the marsh (see above). As you approach the restaurant, you see the illuminated sign and lighthouse, which are both welcoming. The gravel crunches underneath your shoes as you hand your key over to the valet.
Lobsters greet you in their bubbling tanks on your right as you enter the lobby, as do a variety of locally produced food items and souvenirs. The interior is a bright and cheery mix of greenish blues and sharp white walls that surround wooden tables and chairs. The walls hold a plethora of prints, paintings and sketches grouped artistically throughout the first and second floor. To the left of the staircase is the bar, and over the bar, large, illuminated signs with black and red lettering advertise the prices of shellfish and details about upcoming community suppers. These signs send a warm glow through the windows on the interiors walls of the second floor, adding to the inviting environment.
While I appreciate good food in any situation, the atmosphere of a restaurant is important to me. And I like this place. A lot.
