I don't speak Spanish. Well, I learned some phrases in sixth grade, and I've picked up a few more words along the way, but really, I don't speak Spanish.
So, where I am I going to build homes and volunteer in a medical clinic?
Guatemala, obviously.
I'm excited to spend a week encouraging others and building a relationship with my teammates and the Guatemalan people I will meet. And, I have to say it: shop.
After I expressed interest in the trip, my designer mind started to wander down the textiles and jewelry path. Since my parents returned from their trip to Israel over a year ago, I haven't added any interesting pieces to my collection. And the camel bone necklace my mother purchased for me there has become a wear-all-weekend favorite!
I'm hoping that this trip will provide many opportunities to aid others, as well as some fun opportunities to add to my jewelry collection. Also, I'll be looking for interesting blankets and possible textiles for clothing and interior decorating. I love an intricately woven design! Here are examples of what I might find:
