The Work Blog: Read Me. (A Marketing Campaign)

A note about this post: I removed some information about the organization and the location of my office, which, from the photos, has an interior like any other drab office space. With the florescent lighting and dull colors, it's hard to capture how these look around the office, but they have much more of an impact than the photographs suggest!

Our next (Organization) event in (Office location), Discussing The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs, will be on June 26th, and we are excited! This will be the first of the three-part series we've titled Powerful Presentations, and during this event, we will be discussing Carmine Gallo’s book, The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs, and will be learning about Job's presentation style -- his preparation, his process, and his delivery. Learn more about the upcoming event here.

My creative challenge for the upcoming book discussion was to create marketing materials that explained our event and encouraged non-members to attend. Challenge accepted! As my first step, I evaluated my promotional efforts for the previous event, our office-friendly yoga session. With just under a week to prepare and post the materials, I used the traditional marketing method: e-mails, a poster on every blank surface I could find, and general harassment of my co-workers. While this method worked fairly well, I wanted the Steve Jobs mini-campaign to be more creative, more fun, more captivating.

So, how do you advertise a book discussion? My brainstorming session went something like this:

Books.
Bookmobile
Mobile?
Reading…books.
Mobile!
Book…mobile.

And here are the results:

1. Mobile (first attempt)

2. Open book (the tape-friendly approach)

3. Closed book (for cube walls only)

 4. Closed book interior (push pins required)

5. Book mobile (success!)

Please come to our event on June 26th! We'd love to hear your thoughts and comments about The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs.
