Mrs. Norman Maine

I watched A Star is Born (1954) this weekend.

The film, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, depicts the struggles of a young singer whose life is transformed after she befriends a movie star.  The film is peppered with fun musical numbers amidst intense, dramatic scenes filled with passion, sorrow, and devotion.

With sweeping sets and great costumes, the three-hour film follows Judy Garland as she sings on stages, in clubs, and on the screen. I'm partial to the club scenes, which feature interiors filled with fake palm trees, huge bird cages, and other elements not available at my local clubs.

One scene, shot in the couple's home, struck me as the inspiration for perfect spring 2012 palette. Bright colors, fun patterns, modern accents, and great textures, the couple's living room showcases how to mix colors, prints, and textures successfully. Watch the clip below. Take notes.
